Gallbladder Wall Thickening & Cancer – What You Should Know
Understanding Gallbladder Wall Thickening
The gallbladder is a small pouch under the liver that stores bile to aid digestion. On an ultrasound or scan, sometimes doctors find the gallbladder wall appears “thickened.” This is not a diagnosis but a finding that requires further interpretation.
Common Benign Causes
In most cases, wall thickening is due to non-cancerous conditions such as:
- Gallstones or infection (cholecystitis)
- Swelling linked to liver disease, kidney disease, or heart failure
- Benign changes like adenomyomatosis
For many patients, gallbladder wall thickening is not cancer.
